It might be the middle of the winter but things are still growing at the farm. We have begun construction on a new high tunnel! High tunnels are a kind of farming greenhouse that allow us to sow a crop in the ground earlier... or later... than the weather would normally allow. Our first high tunnel allowed us to expand our raspberry crop for many years before we transitioned it to a mix of raspberries and other crops.
The ground stakes that hold the hoops have been going in the ground as the winter weather has allowed and we will shortly start raising the hoops and the end walls. If weather and work schedules cooperate we hope to have the high tunnel producing the season's best for our CSA members this spring.
Major (Farmer Karen's dog) made sure we stayed on task and all the stakes were properly leveled.
